| Survivors International provides essential medical, psychological, and social services to survivors of torture and gender-based persecution living in the Bay Area. For more information about our organization, please see our website at www.survivorsintl.org. We are currently accepting applications for a Spanish-speaking Human Right/Social Work intern. We are seeking mature and committed individuals to support our office staff located in San Francisco. Duties may include, but are not limited to: responding to phone calls with Spanish-speaking clients, conducting intakes in Spanish and/or interpreting for intakes, general administrative support, data-entry, fundraising, client outreach, programmatic research and development, resource and referral expansion, and special projects. While many aspects of the internship program do not include direct client interaction, our interns create a significant and positive impact in the lives of torture survivors through their work. This intern will gain a deepened understanding of the psychological and medical effects of trauma, international politics and conflicts, and refugee migration. You will also be encouraged and supported as you take on special projects pertaining to your individual areas of interest. We are seeking someone to start as soon as possible. Interns are expected to volunteer at least 15 hours/week and to make a commitment of a minimum of five months. (Exact days and times of commitment are to be mutually agreed upon). The Spanish-speaking Human Rights/Social Work Intern is supervised by Katie Hymans, Senior Case Manager. Interns will receive weekly supervision and support. REQUIRED SKILLS: *Mature understanding of the importance of confidentiality *Respect for the ethics of interpretation *Multilingualism and cultural competency, experience working/volunteering abroad is preferred *Attention to detail, willingness to perform administrative tasks with enthusiasm *Demonstrated ability in working with victims of violence and trauma *Ability to work independently and as part of a team *General understanding of human rights frameworks and immigration YOU MAY NOTE: *This internship position is unpaid. Undergraduate Juniors and Seniors or graduate students may apply for field work credit and/or stipends through their academic institutions if applicable. *Placement in this position is highly competitive.
