| The Arthritis Foundation (AF) works to improve lives through leadership in the prevention, control, and cure of arthritis and related diseases. To that end, the AF Community Programs Intern/Volunteer supports the Chapter's community programs including the Life Improvement Series, public health outreach and Speakers' Bureau. LIFE IMPROVEMENT SERIES RESPONSIBILITIES • Research and contact exercise facilities, community centers (such as YMCAs, JCCs), hospitals, physical therapy facilities, universities, etc. in an effort to recruit new Life Improvement Series program sites in the Chapter's 16 county service area; • Maintain recruitment contact information (Excel and Team Approach); • Collect Life Improvement Series program sites/instructors send in required monthly data and assist with updating and program Letters of Agreement; and • Assist with pre- and day of- event logistics for Life Improvement Series Leader/Instructor Training Workshops. SPEAKERS BUREAU RESPONSIBILITIES • Recruit people living with arthritis, doctors, nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists, etc. to make public presentations on arthritis; • Co-facilitate biannual orientation for Speakers Bureau volunteers (1st and 3rd quarters); • Maintain roster of Speakers' Bureau volunteers; • Manage schedule of events and speakers; and • Conduct outreach activities to area organizations to make them aware of Speakers' Bureau and to utilize our services. HEALTH FAIRS • Represent AF at health fairs and volunteer/intern fairs. REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES • Pleasant and professional phone demeanor and excellent customer service (true commitment to researching and providing answers to callers' inquiries); • Excellent interpersonal/communication/writing skills; • Solid research skills; • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Word, Excel and PowerPoint); • Detail orientation and strong organizational skills; and • English/Spanish bilingual a plus but not required. IDEAL CANDIDATES Students who: • have a strong interest in and/or experience with arthritis, adaptive fitness, community programs; • are committed to providing reliable, high-quality work; • are able to multitask; and • possess excellent phone and computer skills (word-processing, database and spreadsheet). LOCATION Arthritis Foundation, Northern California Chapter located at 657 Mission Street, Suite 603, San Francisco, CA 94105. 657 has a blue awning in front. AF is located between the Cartoon Art Museum and the Museum of the African Diaspora (MoAD). Public Transportation: Montgomery BART/MUNI Station (Market & Montgomery). Exit at New Montgomery, walk two blocks and turn right on Mission Street. SF Muni Lines: 9 San Bruno, 9x San Bruno, 15 Third, 14 L/14x Mission Limited Express, 30 Stockton, 45 Union-Stockton, 71/ 71 L Haight-Noriega, 80x -81 Caltrain Express and the J, K, L, M, N street cars. LENGTH OF COMMITMENT/SCHEDULE One Semester. 15-25 hours per week during standard office hours, Monday-Friday, 9am to 5pm.
