| The Arthritis Foundation works to improve lives through leadership in the prevention, control, and cure of arthritis and related diseases. The Development Department is responsible for executing fundraising events (Arthritis Walks, Fashion Show, California Coast Classic bike tour, etc.), and donor cultivation and stewardship for the Arthritis Foundation, Northern California Chapter. The Development Intern provides overall donor and event administrative support to help the Northern California Chapter reach its goal of improving quality of life for people living with arthritis in its 16 county service area by raising much needed funds for research efforts and community programs. Currently, the Chapter has commitments of nearly $6.5 million in research and clinical fellowships at UCSF and Stanford through 2011. The Development Intern will: • Provide general administrative support (acknowledging donations, developing and maintaining donor filing systems & donor databases, etc.). • Complete at least one major donor cultivation and stewardship project from start to finish. This is a wonderful opportunity to develop skills in nonprofit development work, learn to use popular online fundraising tools utilized by many nonprofits, enhance customer service and donor stewardship skills, and ultimately learn about arthritis prevention and treatment. QUALIFICATIONS: • Must have completed junior year of college • Excellent computer skills (MS Office) and able to learn new programs quickly (databases, etc.) • Outstanding attention to detail • Strong organizational abilities • Ability to operate standard office equipment (fax, photocopier, etc.) • Strong writing and verbal communication skills • Ability to juggle multiple tasks • Interest in a nonprofit career - particularly development and fundraising The ideal candidate is someone with outstanding administrative skills, who is detail-oriented, dedicated to quality, committed to finishing tasks, and ready to take on new challenges. The ideal candidate also has an interest in nonprofit work as a future profession and in learning about the development field. The Development Intern should provide a positive, informed and professional image of the Arthritis Foundation and its mission in the community.
