Requirements include:
- Doctor of Podiatric Medicine from an accredited program
- Unrestricted license to practice podiatry
- Completion of a one-year podiatric surgical residency accredited by the Residency Review Committee for the American Podiatric Medical Association (APMA) and acceptable to the Surgeon General
- Between 21 and 42 years of age (may request a waiver)
- Permanent U.S. residency
