An exciting, fast-growing startup in the mobile/social networking space is searching for a Senior Communications Manager to promote its award-winning service and to act as the day-to-day contact for third-party media and marketing partners. This fast-paced, venture-funded company is developing cool widgets that increase traffic and needs someone to make its technology very successful with consumers. The company is developing a next-generation, multi-modal, social-media platform, with a redesign set for this autumn. The Communications Manager will handle media outreach and relationship management, corporate communications and work closely with staff members to create messaging for new site and product features, WAP, applications and widgets. This position will have no direct reports at this time and will own the entire communications function for the company.
The ideal candidate will be a creative thinker with more than five years of experience in PR, communications and media relations; excellent communication skills; deep familiarity with Web 2.0 and the social networking space; and great contacts with consumer media as well as bloggers and analysts. Experience in similar fast-paced startup environments would be a plus.
Responsibilities:
* Develop and own day-to-day media relationships with journalists, bloggers and analysts at a broad range of outlets in the technology, new media and traditional press sector on national and local levels
* Represent the company as a category leader in mobile lifecasting
* Encourage bloggers, in key content verticals, to use the company as a real-time reporting tool
* Maintain C-level speaking schedule and conference attendance
* Create and execute PR campaigns to drive awareness of service and company initiatives, such as new features, events, partner marketing and executive announcements
* Identify speaking opportunities for the CTO and CEO; assist with partner marketing and events and help them get into events
* Support creation and execution of viral outreach plans; coordinate event and partner marketing programs
* Update press kit and press pages with recent coverage, events and news
* Provide user feedback to internal management about current communications and market trends
* Assist in creating consumer communications, including company blog, community newsletter and user in-box updates on key product features
Requirements:
* More than five years of combined in-house and agency experience in public relations, communications and media relations
* Proven relationships with journalists, bloggers and analysts in technology, Web 2.0 and entertainment media
* Highly creative in story/concept development and execution
* Deep familiarity with Web 2.0, social networking/social media space, including how to best utilize online social media tools
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills
* Bachelor's degree (preferably with a major in communications, public relations, journalism and English)
* Flexible team player with a positive attitude, good humor and willingness to get involved with a number of different initiatives
* Comfortable working in a fast-paced, evolving environment
* Additional qualifications desired include experience in viral marketing, online marketing and advertising/technology
